Active members of the Ladue National Honor Society must maintain a 3.8+ gpa, remain in good standing with the administration, and complete 8+ community service hours each semester.
Community Service
The Ladue chapter of the National Honor Society posts weekly events for members to get their service hours. Students may also choose to get an outside organization or event approved for NHS hours by filling out the approval form.
We also keep a list of pre-approved organizations that any NHS student can volunteer with to get their hours. If students volunteer outside of a posted NHS volunteer opportunity, they must fill out the NHS hour report form within a week of completing their hours.
NHS Hours
You must get 8+ hours of community service each semester you are a part of the Ladue chapter of the National Honor Society. If you fail to get 8 hours, you will be put on probation the following semester and you must make up your remaining hours in addition to the 8 hours needed that semester. If a student fails to reach their 16 hours for the school year, they will be released from the National Honor Society.
Student may not count hours completed for another organization for NHS hours. Ex: National Charity League, Scouts, another honor society, etc. NHS does not typically allow hours completed for other Ladue clubs as
Hours roll over from the fall semester to the spring semester, but they do not roll over year to year. So, if you were to complete 16 hours in the fall, you would not need to complete additional hours in the spring.
NHS members should check the Point Sheet often to ensure their points are recorded correctly. If there is an error, students should fill out the Point Corrections Form.
Communication
It is the responsibility of the student to communicate with the NHS officers and sponsors when questions/issues arise concerning their membership and/or hours. One of the pillars of NHS is leadership, and we believe that students should demonstrate that quality through advocating for themselves. We ask that parents encourage their student to take on the task of reporting hours and speaking with sponsors when appropriate.
If parents have questions about specific volunteering events, how the chapter is run, etc., the sponsors will be more than willing to answer them. We just ask that students take an active role in their membership whenever possible.
