How many hours do I need each semester?
8 hours each semester; 16 hours per year. Hours roll over from the fall semester to the spring semester. They do not roll over year to year.
If I got over 16 hours last year, do they roll over to next year?
No, hours roll from semester-semester, not year to year.
Can I get all 16 of my hours through my own volunteering outside of NHS?
Yes, new to the 2026-27 school year, you can get all of your hours from outside the opportunities we offer as long as you get volunteer activities approved beforehand. You must fill out the NHS Hour Approval Google Form prior to volunteering.
I am volunteering with my soccer team for SPENSA. Can I get NHS hours through that?
No. If you are volunteering with another club or team, you cannot count those hours for NHS hours. If you sign up for SPENSA on your own and are not participating with a team, you can get NHS hours for that.
I am a part of the National Charity League. Can I use those hours for NHS?
No. You cannot double count service hours. If you volunteer for your Eagle Scout project, NCL, or any other volunteer organization, those hours will not count for NHS hours.
How do I report my hours?
After participating in an NHS volunteer event you signed up for through our Google Classroom, your hours will be automatically logged by every Monday.
If it’s an outside organization, you must fill out the Organization Approval Form BEFORE you volunteer. After you volunteer for outside NHS hours, you must submit an NHS Hour Report. Please email this to the Vice President (NHS01@ladueschools.net) within a week of the event. Forms submitted late will not be accepted.
What happens if I am on probation?
If you do not complete 8 hours during either semester, you will be placed on probation for the next semester, requiring you to make up both the previously missed hours and the current hours due, or you will be dismissed from NHS.
I volunteered but my points haven’t been logged by Monday. What should I do?
Fill out a point correction form located on the Google Classroom.
When can I unregister for volunteer events?
You can cancel your registration with no penalty if the event is not within a week of the event. If it is within a week, then you must have a replacement/sub or you will be docked the amount of hours you signed up to complete.
